An accomplished technocrat and administrator, Shri Birendra Kumar Tiwari joined SAIL/Bokaro Steel Plant on 15-July-1989 after completing his B.Tech (Metallurgy) from BIT, Sindri. Prior to that, he did his schooling from St John's High School, Ranchi and Intermediate (Science) from St. Xavier's College, Ranchi.
Shri Tiwari started his career in SAIL as Management Trainee (Technical) from the Coke Ovens department of Bokaro Steel Plant. He served the Coke Ovens department in various capacities for nearly thirty years and was instrumental in spearheading various aspects of operation of the department. On 30-June-2017, he was elevated to the position of General Manager (Coke Ovens) which was later re-designated as Chief General Manager w.e.f., 27-Sep-2019. On 01-August-2020, he was assigned the responsibility of Chief General Manager (Services), Bokaro Steel Plant for a brief period. Shri Tiwari was promoted as Executive Director (Collieries Division) w.e.f., 01-June-2021 where he spent nearly one year. During his tenure at Collieries Division, he took a number of initiatives for augmenting operational efficiency of the mines under Collieries Division with a special focus on safety. Shri Tiwari was transferred as Executive Director (Works), Bokaro Steel Plant on 15-June-2022. He continued to head the plant as Head of Works Division before taking up his new assignment as Director In-charge, Bokaro Steel Plant.
A visionary leader, technocrat and administrator, Shri Tiwari has over three decades of experience in various aspects of Plant operation. Under his astute leadership as Executive Director (Works), Bokaro Steel Plant scaled new heights with best ever production figures and all-round excellence in financial year 2023-24. He is also on the Board of Directors of Bokaro Power Supply Company (P) Limited (BPSCL).
